I’ve done a review of the other advantage G15, but i finally got my hands on this one.
Okay, 2 differences between the AMD Advantage Edition Strix laptops.
One is 1080p with 300hz refresh rate, this one is 1440p with a refresh rate of 165hz
This model has the Ryzen 9 5980HX CPU, the other one has the Ryzen 9 5900HX
Theres really only one negative about this laptop. It has a slow, 512GB SSD. Which just isnt enough storage for anyone. This laptop uses gen 3 SSDs, gen 4 does work, but you wont get the full potential of them, so save your money and get a gen 3.
Very upgradable, with 2 m.2 slots, 2 slots for DDR4 RAM, wifi adapter located under the SSD, and the battery can be replaced fairly easily.
Cooling is top of the line, dual fan, with 4 exhaust vents towards the back, and a vapor chamber.
When not gaming and using battery, this laptop can get well over 8 hours from just browsing the web, and watching videos.
Aside from that, the GPU is a RX6800M, which as far as performance goes, falls in-between the Nvidia RTX 3070 and 3080.
I should also mention that this thing is a fingerprint magnet. Get a microfiber cloth.
Lastly, as the title of this review says, get this on a sale, and do it soon! I bought this laptop while it was on sale for $1099 (October 2022) Just over 1200 after taxes. Its very possible that this laptop will be discontinued soon, so the next sale could be the last one. The 1080p model is no longer listed, so its a matter of time now.
9.5/10

I have had this laptop for a month now and it is fantastic. If you’re wondering if it is worth buying open box, I did and it turned out fine. Make sure to look up videos about this model in order to get the best performance out of it. The unit I got had the faster stock RAM, but I am still in the process of adding more RAM to the system. If this laptop is hooked up to an external monitor, it will sit between an RTX 3070 and 3080 when it comes to gaming performance.
The only issues I’ve had so far are the wireless card. At times it will not connect to networks upon waking. Restarting the system fixes the issue.
Currently looking to add storage as 500gb is tiny for games today. The different colored ROG tabs on the left shoulder actually make it look pretty slick. Overall I am very happy with this laptop, especially since how quiet it is compared to my last Asus.

This item has been on sale for $1099.99. My laptop arrived with no issues detected so far! It came with two 8gb sticks of ram onto the motherboard which is way better than the single 16gb stick of ram they were adding before. I still plan to upgrade to 32gb down the line however, this laptop is POWERFUL. What is even more amazing is how cool this laptop stays! I made adjustments such as disabling turbo boost and it stays around 70-76c in temps. Speakers aregreat as well although i wish the treble/highs were a bit better. It has no issues in the bass category. The chassis of the laptop is on the thicker side, however as stated before the laptop runs very cool! Overall a really good deal considering its Qhd at 165hz panel! GOW4 and Spider-Man look amazing on this laptop and can run on ultra qhd but again i do plan on upgrading the ram.

Almost perfect powerfull laptop. The 6800M is great for running all games on high or ultra above 60fps. Most times above 100. Only downside is the cheap ram they out in this. Replace that and upgrade or add a hard drive and this thing punches way above it’s class. Only downside is AMD drivers can be a pain.

I purchased this a week ago, picked it up om last Friday and has been testing it during the weekend. So far I am satisfied with it, but it came with some very annoying issues.
The Good:
This is a very powerful machine at this price point. I have an Alienware Area-51M R1 that costed 3.8K+ and had all the top specs at the time of purchase (2 years ago), this laptop outperformed the old Area-51m by miles. 3DMark testing score is much higher.
It is surprisingly cool. I ran Witcher 3 at 1440p ultra setting, and it was not hot at all. So far I haven’t tested other games yet.
The screen is very thin. 1440p QHD.
The design is good, it looks very nice, and doesn’t look cheap. The keyboard lighting is fancy although I almost don’t care about it. There is a lighted label on the back of the screen too.
The size is reasonably. I has an ASUS ROG 17 inch and the Alienware mentioned above, both are huge. Traveling with the Aienware is very painful. Compare to those two, I feel this one is very portable and small.
The bad:
No webcam
Fan is a bit loud but acceptable.
The material combined with the black color of this laptop, attract finger prints easily.
AMD software doesn’t auto configure game graphic (unlike GeForce Experience)
Now here is the ugly:
There are some annoying issues with this laptop, and if you know how to deal with it, you will like this laptop.
1. The WiFi Adapter. DON’T DOWNLOAD the Mediatek driver recommended by the MyAsus program. That will break your laptop. The problem with that driver is, everytime the laptop came back from sleep, it will lose the WiFi adapter. Then you can’t open the Wireless setting, nor can you troubleshoot. And if you try to restart the laptop, it will get stuck at rebooting then blue screen. The solution is to simply let Window 11 take care of the WiFi adapter driver update. I haven’t had any issue after that.
2. DON’T download the “Asus MultiAntenna Service”. It is a Hotfix suggested by MyAsus. I found that after installing this so-called “hot fix”, my download speed was cut down to half. I don’t know what it fixes, but it definitely cause more issue. After uninstalling it, my WiFi speed got back to normal.
(Asus, if you reading this, your driver support team is terrible, they should find another job.)
3. Not sure if this is cause by Win11 or the laptop, but this laptop CANNOT use the latest Amd software Adrenalin edition downloaded from AMD official website. It can only use the older Radeon Software downloaded by Win11 update. If you download the Amd software Adrenalin edition from AMD, Win 11 will reverse it every time. I can use “roll back” to undo the Win 11 update, but I found that the Amd software Adrenalin edition will cause me not able to change screen brightens. The setting is still adjustable, but the screen is dimmed and cannot be changed. So far there is no solution, so I keep using the older Radeon Software.
